Subject: Getting DMR SMS to work reliably on the Anytone 878

Hi,

A few days ago I made a post here asking for help with testing DMR SMS with my new Anytone 878. It took a while before I was able to get it working properly, so in case anyone else is in the dark I figured I should post the steps here. (This is all based on the brandmeister network, I have no idea if this applies to any other network)

First thing to do is to set your radio as Motorola in the Brandmeister Self Care page. You can also choose Hytera, but then you need to reconfig your radio for H-SMS.

Next step is to disable "Digi APRS RX" in the programming software for every channel where you want to receive SMS. For some reason this disturbs SMS reception.

And the step after that is to send a few SMS to the DMR network to configure your SMS capabilities. All of these are to be sent to DMR ID 262995.

"CONFIG SHORT" - Anytone radios are having some issues with receiving long text messages and this makes sure your radio doesn't get locked up like mine does when recieving a long SMS (as is the case for example METAR to 292993)

"CONFIG DELAY 10" - This is related to your private call hangtime. Make sure your private call hangtime is below 10 seconds and send this text.

"CONFIG ON" - This text message makes the previous settings active.

After this, I believe that SMS should work flawlessly on the Anytone 878.

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone wants to send a test I'm DMR ID 2403166 and I'll try to reply as quickly as possible.
